• 4 Favorite Styles of Spring Jackets

Living in San Francisco, spring jackets are really the only jackets I have in my wardrobe and I wear them year round (so I can rationalize investing in a few favorites). Here are a 4 of my favorite styles of spring jackets, which is your favorite? I teamed up with the gorgeous Liz of Cotton and Curls whose here for a few months going to fashion school design (she’s an amazing seamstress) and was willing to model some looks for me.

Styling and photography by myself, modeling by Liz of Cotton and Curls

Style 1: A short sleeve poncho

A waterproof/windproof poncho is perfect for a ‘tut-tut it looks like rain’ spring day. Great for unpredictable weather like we have here in San Francisco that’s sunny + warm one minute and windy + cloudy the next. A great transitional piece for spring!

I bought the pink + polka dot spring poncho above here (sadly, sold out!), but here are a couple others to check out…

    one/two

    Style 2: A lightweight trench

A belted trench is such a classic piece that I think will always be in fashion, especially in such a great neutral color. When it’s warm I keep it open, and when it gets cold I tie the belt in a knot in front (below) and add a scarf.

This trench above is from Madewell a few seasons ago but I spotted the same ones for sale on ebay right here! And here are a few others to check out: one/two/three

    Style 3: Black leather jacket

I’ve talked about my love affair with a leather jacket before (you can see all my different ways to style it here), but guys. Really. It goes with everything. Maybe you think you’re not a leather jacket person (I did!) but I promise you, you’ll instantly feel cool and hip in one. Just do it.

(PS Doesn’t my model Liz have the most perfect messy top knot? She shares a tutorial for how to make it right here)

Mine is vintage from a consignment shop here, but here are a couple others to check out: one/two/three/four. I love pairing the leather jacket with something feminine like this striped tube skirt. Boots from Sam Edelman (my favorite booties).

    Style 4: Military jacket

Out of these four jackets I’ve been wearing this military trench the most lately. Sometimes I really need something a tad edgy (the leather jacket works too) to not feel like a frumpy mom and this military trench does the trick! It’s just the right layering piece you need for a cool spring day.

The military trench above is from Urban Outfitters right here, and here are a couple others: one/two/three (cool sleeveless version).

I love it paired with those military boots too (the pair above are thrifted but I love love love this Steve Madden pair). Liz goes to fashion school and says aaaallll the coolest kids cuff their jeans over the military boots (I’ve been tucking them in. whoops!). The over sized knit sweater is from Forever 21 here.

Ohhh, how fun!! Great primer on spring jackets, always a tricky item to find the perfect one, and so so cool that you teamed up with Liz of C & C! You are two of my oldest fave bloggers, love the collaboration!

The military jacket is my favorite, followed by the black leather. If only winter would be officially over so I could consistently wear just a spring jacket!

You are looking fantastic in all these pictures. The jackets are looking funky. I like that black leather jacket most.

Oh dear! I absolutely love everything about that poncho! I just spent way too long trying to track one down somewhere online and they are all gone everywhere. So sad! If you ever decide you are going to sell it…

Liz, I love these jackets but I’m really loving the other Liz’s lip color! Do you have any idea what brand/color it is? It seems like the perfect deep/vibrant pink to head into spring (without being neon)!

Love the post! Somehow I feel that in California we don’t need jackets, but the Bay Area is anything but predictable, even during warmer weather. I’m really really tempted by the UO military jacket!!

It’s true, even in California, you definitely need a spring jacket!

Ah, so many great looks! This makes me hope I can shove my winter coat to the back of the closet very soon. Oh, NYC.
