As I mentioned before, we spent this last week test driving the new BMW 5-series Diesel. We’ve had fun cruising around in the fancy speedy car all week so when the weekend came we took advantage of the beautiful fall weather and headed up north for a quintessential fall activity: apple picking!
It was the perfect Saturday afternoon trip. I’ve been feeling couped up lately in my final weeks of pregnancy at home and have also been missing my yearly fall pilgrimage trip to NY, so a little piece of a New England fall tradition was exactly what I needed. The trees were stocked and lots of low lying fruit so Henry was able to do most of the apple picking work himself (bonus for me at 36 weeks pregnant!)

We headed up to Twin Hill Ranch which is a little more than an hour north of San Francisco up highway 101. Driving around town in the BMW I wasn’t able to really give it much of a chance to show off and highway driving was really fun with it (diesel engines have more torque + acceleration). Even after our long trip and all the driving this week, I’m still at 1/2 a tank since the MPG is way more in a this car, about 38 MGP. Turns out I didn’t need to use my diesel app after all, although most gas stations had diesel fuel available anyway when I did the research. I was also happy to find out how clean these new innovative clean diesels are for the environment. You can read more about the clean diesel technology here. When we got up there it was pretty packed with other locals and city escapees but it was the perfect time to go apple picking, the trees were stocked with jonathan, fuji, and red delicious (Henry’s favorite). Beautiful ripe apples were hanging low on every tree and Henry was able to pick most himself which made my job much easier. If apple picking is on your fall to-do list I’d recommend going asap, it was perfect timing. Two huge bags of apples and a 1/2 gallon of fresh apple cider is what we left with. There is still some debate as to what we should make this week: apple pie, apple crisp (a family favorite), apple tarts, apple sauce, apple cider donuts, etc. Twin Hill Ranch had lots of great recipes on the site as well to check out so we might dive into some of those this week.
We had fun this week with the BMW, besides the obviously fuel efficiency, the little things made a difference to me too like keyless entry, easy navigation, bluetooth phone + audio, etc. Would be fun to own one for sure, it certainly makes driving around town and weekend trips more fun. Do you have any fall weekend road trips planned with your family?
