I love the look of hand stamped linen and thought it would be fun to create a throw or coverlet using that hand stamping technique. It would also make adorable pillows! This would be a really lovely handmade gift for a mother, sister, or close girlfriend. I love how it looks draped on the edge of a bed or over the top of a couch (where ours currently is). You can use any kind of fabric but I thought linen looked really nice. Wash it a few times to soften it up before printing on it.

Final images by Liz Daly

Keep reading to see how to make it…

Materials:

Linen, fabric paint, brush, scrap cardboard or craft foam

Instructions:

Step 1: Cut your linen the desired size for your bed or a throw for the couch. Tape off squares so you have a reference and lay it on some scrap paper or back of an old rug (because the paint bleeds through a bit)

Step 2: Cut a large circle out of cardboard or craft foam. Lather it up with white fabric paint using a brush

Step 3: Press hard onto the middle of your first square. I glued on a peg to hold it better so it felt like a stamp but it wasn’t really necessary.

Step 4: The color will be uneven but I like the look of it being hand stamped. You can always do touch ups afterwards if you’d like.

Step 5: Reapply paint after each stamp and continue stamping in all your squares. Let dry completely and hem edges if desired.

Here’s how you can make some too…

Materials:
- Blank cotton pillowcase/s (pre-washed, dried, ironed)
- Old cardboard or newspaper
- Fabric paint – like this fluorescent pink or this set
- Small bowl for paint
- A pencil (or something else to stamp with)

*I think the fabric paint I used was actually meant for airbrushing, so it was quite runny and bled a little bit. A slightly thicker paint would probably be better.

Step 1.
Spread out your pillowcase and place folded newspaper or cardboard inside to stop the paint seeping through to the other side).

Step 2.
If necessary, put your paint into the small bowl. Dip the end of your pencil into the paint and stamp it onto the pillowcase. Keep doing that until the whole pillowcase is covered. Allow to dry overnight.

Step 3.
Once the paint is dry, take the newspaper/cardboard out, and set the paint according to the instructions (For me it was ironing the print inside out for a few minutes).

Step 4.
Once set, wash and dry your pillowcase before putting it to use!

I prefer celebrating St Patrick’s day with bright rainbows (and…pots of gold!) over the usual green theme. Especially when it’s been a dreary, wet, muggy week like the one we’ve had here in San Francisco. Today I’ll show you how to make this pretty rainbow table runner that you can use for a St Patrick’s Day party, birthday party, or just to brighten your afternoon tea parties.

Supplies for table runner: Craft felt in a rainbow of colors, scissors, chalk marker (or pen), ruler, cotton strip of fabric, heat and bond iron on adhesive sheets, sewing machine and white thread.

Supplies for pots of gold: Mini mason jars, masking tape black or chalkboard spray paint, gold coins.

Keep reading to see the full tutorial…

Step One: With your ruler and chalk marker, make marks on a piece of felt every 2 inches. Step Two: Draw diagonal lines up so you’re making 5 triangles per felt sheet
Step Three: Carefully cut out your triangles. Repeat steps 1-3 on all the colors you’re using for the runner.

Step Four: Line up a rainbow strip of colors, markings side up on your ironing board. Match them up right against each other as neatly as possible (it might not be perfect).

Step Five: Cut a strip of heat and bond paper the size of your rainbow strip and place on top. Bumpy side down, touching the felt triangles. With a hot iron, iron the sheet to the felt which will adhere it.
Step Six: Trim the edges of the heat and bond sheet off.

Step Seven: Cut a piece of cotton fabric the width of your triangles and finish the edges on the sewing machine

Step Eight: Peel off the paper backing from the heat and bond sheet and place sticky side up on the ironing board.
Step Nine: Lay your white fabric carefully on top of the felt triangles (sticky side is up) and iron it on. Work in sections and use steam if necessary. Continue ironing until the entire section is adhered.

Step Ten: Repeat on the rest of your rainbow sets until the length you desire is complete. Make sure when you’re adding sections together that you’re careful to line them up right against each other.

For the pots of gold I spray painted mini mason jars with chalkboard paint and filled with fake coins. Writing names on the pots of gold would be a nice touch for a children’s party or for place settings.

Find adorable kids to join you in the celebration!

These decoupage surprise eggs are super easy to make and would make great place settings for an Easter dinner or nestled in grass inside an Easter basket (like this one I made a couple weeks back). Everyone will enjoy cracking them open and discovering treats and treasures inside.
Would you like to see how to make them?

1. Using a pairing knife, gently crack and remove the very top of the egg. Reserve the inside for omelets. Carefully wash out including the film at the bottom. Let dry completely over night.

2. Fill to the brim with colorful candy (if they’re unwrapped candy, make sure egg is completely dry inside)

3. Cut up tissue paper. Take a few pieces and apply mod podge around the sides with a foam brush to secure top. Continue covering the egg with tissue paper and mod podge.

4. After covering with tissue paper, turn the egg on its flat side and let dry completely. Because one end is flat, it will stand perfectly on its own for a table setting (bonus: no egg stands required!)

As I started cutting out a basic one this idea came to me to pretty it up a bit by making the crayon pockets into a bunting banner instead of the traditional straight pockets.
I was able to fix the mistakes I made by winging it, and in the end I really am pleased with the final product.

I started with some bunting cut out of pretty turquoise felt (leftover from the bunting banner I made in his room).
Sewed it on top of two pieces of stripey linen with ribbon attached which had been sewed together and turned inside out. Linen was not the best choice here, but it was the only stripey fabric I had left in my stash.
I love how that blue pops from the striped background
